This is my third year of balcony farming...and my most ambitious yet. I have many exciting changes planned.
First, I will be starting from seed for some of my crops. There are some vegetable varieties that I cannot find seedlings for. I have bought a seed starter kit for my hydroponics system.
The hydroponics machine will speed up the sowing period and develop strong seedlings. I have ordered the seeds. I will start the process in late March.
Next, I can't wait to assemble my new raised bed planter (see on the right). I can plant more varieties, including root vegetables. I think it will be easier to organize the farm and will look great.
I will reduce the number of eggplant and tomato plants this year. I had too much harvest last year and the plants took up a lot of space on the balcony. I will buy the pre-potted plants from the nursery like I did last year. The plants are well developed (2 feet in height) and look beautiful. Unfortunately, the varieties are limited. I need to remind myself to hold back and not bring 8 planters back! I will limit it to 4 this year!
